Roseau on Foot, From Our Front Gate

Most visitors to Dominica rent a car. If you are staying with us, you may not need one for the first few days.

Rose St Gardens is in Goodwill, and Roseau is a walk away. The Old Market, the cathedral, the Botanic Gardens, the Bayfront and the supermarket are all reachable without getting behind a wheel.

A few things worth knowing about the rhythm of the town.

Cruise days change everything. Roseau is busiest from mid-morning to mid-afternoon while ships are in, when the craft stalls open up and the Bayfront fills. It empties again by late afternoon. If you want the town at its quietest, walk in early or go once the ships have left.

Saturday morning is market morning, and it is the best few hours of the week in Roseau. Produce, fish, noise, and the whole town out. Go early.

Sunday is slow. Much of the town closes, so plan meals ahead.

The Botanic Gardens are worth an hour on their own, and they are free.

Windsor Park Sports Stadium is close enough that festival nights need no transport at all, which during WCMF is worth more than it sounds.

Hire a car for the waterfalls, the Roseau Valley and the north of the island. For town, use your feet.
