Mas Domnik 2027: Start Planning Now

Dominica's Carnival season runs from 9 January to 10 February 2027, and if you have only seen Caribbean carnival on television, this one will surprise you.

Mas Domnik is often described as the most authentic carnival in the region, and what people mean by that is that it has never been tidied up for visitors. It is less polished and far more participatory than its bigger neighbours. Sensay costumes, layered strips of cloth and rope with horned masks, come out of a tradition much older than the tourist trade. Lapo Kabwit drumming moves through the streets. Calypso and bouyon competitions build for weeks before the two main days in February.

You do not really watch this carnival. You end up inside it.

It is also the trip people most often take as a group, and the one they most often book too late. Rooms across the island tighten from December onward.

We have four rooms and a studio, and the whole house can be booked together. For Carnival, the whole house is the one to ask about: your own base in Goodwill, walking distance from Roseau, somewhere to regroup between jump-ups, and nobody negotiating the road home at four in the morning.

Enquiries for 2027 are open now.
