Dominica Is Getting Busier. Here Is What the Numbers Say.

Total visitor arrivals reached 496,635 in 2025, up from 432,989 the year before, growth of roughly fifteen percent. Stayover arrivals, meaning people who actually sleep here rather than step off a ship for the day, reached 99,846, up nineteen percent on 2019. In the first quarter of 2026 stayovers rose another ten percent year on year.

Cruise numbers moved further. Between October 2025 and April 2026 the island received 409,761 cruise passengers, a twenty-three percent increase and the strongest cruise season since 2010 to 2011.

Add a cable car opening this year, an international airport on the way, a geothermal plant under development and several hundred new hotel rooms in the pipeline, and the direction is not subtle.

We are not going to pretend this is bad news for us. But it does change how you should plan, and there are two practical consequences.

The first is the rhythm of town. More cruise calls means Roseau is busy from mid-morning to mid-afternoon on ship days and quiet either side. Plan around it and the town feels like a different place.

The second is beds. The island's small properties, guesthouses and four-room places like ours, fill first and stay full through festival season, simply because there are not many of us.

If you are thinking about a 2026 or 2027 trip, book earlier than you would have three years ago.
