The World's Longest Cable Car Opens This Year, and It Starts Near Us

Dominica's cable car is due to open in October 2026, and officials expect it to be the longest mono cable car system in the world. It runs 6.6 kilometres from the Roseau Valley to the Boiling Lake, turning a six-hour hike into a twenty-minute ride.

The numbers are worth sitting with. Sixty-five cabins, ten people in each, with capacity for around a thousand passengers an hour. It has taken four years to build, has employed more than 450 people during construction, and is expected to sustain roughly 150 permanent jobs once running. The top station is planned with a cafe and a viewing platform looking back down the gorge.

The Boiling Lake itself is the second-largest active volcanic lake on earth. Until now it has been effectively out of reach for anyone unable to manage a demanding full-day trek through the Valley of Desolation, which is most visitors and very nearly all cruise passengers.

That is the real change here. An attraction that a few thousand people a year reached on foot is about to be reachable by almost anyone.

Opening dates on a project this size have moved before, so treat October as the plan rather than the promise. We will update this post when it opens.
